DEFCON is one of the longest running bastions of underground “hacker” culture, spawned by die hard security fanatics when I was still learning to walk. The environment is great, especially if you’re a nerd – everyone wants to talk and make friends, and there are an endless amount of activities and presentations that you can attend. Where does electronic music come in here? Well… us nerds love techno.. and raves… need I say more? Every week for over a year now, the Techno Snobs collective have been steadily pushing the more obscure sounds of electronic music at Scarlet Lounge – upstairs from Monarch Theater in downtown Phoenix. If you came out to any of our Scarlet Sessions with the Melt crew earlier in the year, then you know the place.
