I’ll be playing alongside the Melt crew at the Lunchbox on September 14th! Myself, as well as a handful of southwest USA sectors will be providing direct support for UK Drum & Bass producer Furney.
I have some very exciting news! I’ve been booked to close out Full Moon Festival this month. This is easily our biggest recurring local-fueled music festival, and I’ve been dying to play on Timothy Heights fantastic PA. Timothy is a very talented audio engineer, and he has arguably the best sounding system in the state. This will be a fantastic opportunity for me to give downtown Phoenix a taste of what I consider to be some of the hottest techno out, on one of the hardest hitting systems we have to offer. 50,000 watts of BASS!
We’ve been hosting a stage at this festival for quite a while now, and previous dates have seen us bring the likes of Dustin Zahn, Developer, and a booking for Ø [Phase] that sadly fell through due to travel delays. Needless to say, this is going to be an extremely fun night and I cannot wait to give those subwoofers a nice workout.
My set from this weekend down in mexico is now available on soundcloud. This was a very challenging weekend but at the end of the day we had a blast and threw a fun party. Some lessons were learned, and if we have the opportunity to do it again we will do it even better next time (with proper monitors and decks)!
Hermosillo is a young city in regards to techno. The promoters that we worked with were very eager, extremely accommodating, and I see this translating into quick growth for their techno scene. I can’t wait to see what is in store for the state of music south of the border this year.
I’ve been invited to play an all techno event in Hermosillo at the end of the month. The event is being curated by our very own “Aisle 5” aka Chris, and is titled “Fixated”. This is a step in a new direction for Phoenix locals and hopefully will open the door to more techno events in the region and beyond. I’m very excited for this opportunity to represent the southwest with some proper heat, free from the usual club restrictions that I feel are so prevalent here in the states. This will be a fantastic night full of variety, plenty of melodic stuff mixed in and a warehouse after party to boot!
We will be driving down in a big group, feel free to get in touch if you wish to join in the festivities. The trip should be very affordable, hotel is under 30 USD with our discount. And don’t forget that authentic Mexican food south of the border!
More information can be found at the event page on Resident Advisor and Facebook:
I have put together a two hour drum and bass special for the London (UK) based internet radio station http://www.rewindit.fm. Initially our plan was to air a techno set, however after reviewing my stuff on soundcloud they requested that I put together a two hour drum and bass set instead. Naturally I was happy to oblige, as drum and bass is the reason I discovered most of the electronic music that I currently enjoy.
My pallete of drum and bass music is absolutely massive, so it was a little difficult to choose tracks for this mix simply because there were so many that I wanted to include. I played it through a few times to get the energy just right, fine tuning the track selection after each session. I settled on an arrangement that let me exercise a few different styles of mixing, and one that exudes quite a varied spectrum of emotion.
Expect this mix to start off slow with cuts from Metalheadz and similar labels, with a gradual increase of energy taking you to some heavier stuff off of MethLab, eventually moving into festival grade double drops and bangers, and ending with liquid Lenzman style rollers and eventually a few sentimental Offworld tracks to close it off properly.
Track list will be posted here tomorrow as well as the soundcloud link with download enabled. The set will be live at this time tomorrow, and you can stream it via mobile app on either Android or iOS. Links are available for both on their website. Enjoy!
This Tuesday I had the pleasure of performing my debut set at Fat Tuesday on Mill Avenue in our Downtown Tempe college district. The area is packed full of night clubs, bars, and social areas. I opened up for the Techno Snobs bi-monthly Underground Tuesday event to a full house. It was a very instructive, humbling, and enjoyable experience to say the least.
I want to thank everyone that came out to show me love and support on this night, as you all know I was EXTREMELY nervous – but that all seemed to vanish once I looked up and saw the entire dance floor moving to the beat. I’m happy with the performance overall, even with the small mishaps due to nerves and being completely unfamiliar with the equipment.
This was one of the most enjoyable memories I have, and I can’t wait for the next opportunity to share some of the music I love with new and old friends. The video is available via YouTube, the set has also been uploaded to SoundCloud with download enabled. See links below, and enjoy!
Recently, www.6am-group.com hosted a mix contest. The rules were simple – limit of 60 minutes, must be a fresh set, and must be techno. I love a challenge, so naturally I took it on and submitted a mix. My rough objective when assembling this set was to see how high i could push the energy with only 60 minutes, while also keeping the mixing as tight as possible. I’m fairly happy with the outcome, there is only one spot i would re-assess if I were to do the whole adventure again (see kas:st to fautzi).
I picked songs from some of my favorite labels at the moment, and included a throwback from my hardcore days in 2007 to finish it off at a high energy point. Labels included:
Children of Tomorrow
Mary Go Wild Black
The mix wasn’t chosen as a contest winner, but I’m happy with the result regardless. Enjoy!
The latest mix is up: a showcase for Reddit’s own Techno sub series titled “Frontex”. Hear it first here on my personal soundcloud, the actual episode goes live in a week or so and will be updated here.
Frontex is a collective founded by members of various dance music discussion boards from around the world. They aim to push less known, talented names into the spotlight and to help DJ’s and producers get some traction among peers online. Based in the UK, Frontex sources talent from around the globe in order to chase a true underground sound. Featuring a variety of flavors – from industrial, to acid, to atmospheric and deep hypnotic techno, there is something for everyone within their series.
I aimed to create a bit of a journey with this set, starting with a slower ambient vibe, eventually moving into atmospheric sounds from Affin, slowly transitioning to an edgier Soma-esque warehouse sound, and finally finishing off with a few chart topping progressive sounds at around 131 bpm. All fresh tracks! This is my first internet release outside of my personal circle of friends, and I will be looking to push more of these out to the masses in the future to try and help generate some interest online before making a move to launch our local series. Feedback is always welcome via email, or soundcloud comment/dm.
